FUNCTIONS OF QA
Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) functions as the Vice Chancellor's secretariat on quality assurance 
issues. The pivotal role of this organ is to determine quality standards set internally for measuring 
performance in all core operational areas of the University to ensure that they are met, updated 
and that they measure up to the national, regional and international benchmarks. 
Specific  functions of the QAU are as follows among others:
  • Advise units on setting and improvement of performance standards that are appropriate
       and relevant to the CIU;
  •     Coordinate internal and external evaluation of CIU and its programmes
  •     Link with external actors, in particular with professional and regulatory bodies,
             employers, students, community and alumni to raise the profile of the University.
  •     Ensure existence and implementation of an acceptable and robust system of examinations.
  •     Carry out quality assurance audits and advise CIU Deans appropriately.

ACTIVITES OF QUALITY ASSURANCE
  • Auditing examination past papers to assess the examination papers for critical thinking constructs
  • Checking for duplication and plagiarism in student research papers and advising accordingly.

    Monitoring of teaching and learning and examination processes at CIU.

    Coordinating the evaluation process of courses and staff by students at the end of every semester

    Conducting QA update workshops/sessions for staff and students to sensitize the CIU community on Quality issues;

    Preparing CIU for external evaluations in response to the National council for higher education requirements

ACTIVITIES OF QUALITY ASSURANCE

 

Like most of the universities in Uganda, CIU embraced the NCHE guidelines by adopting the ODel as a way of mitigating the spread of Covid 19.

Among the reports compiled include;

Readiness assessment of the students to adapt to ODel

Readiness of the academic staff to engage in E-Learning teaching

Evaluating implementation of Odel to foster continuity of learning (students and staff experience)

Assessment of Technology Access and Online Skills Among New Students at CIU.
